Community Health Projects
In 2000 the SCCMSA received national recognition for its Hands Free Program. This program teaches Kindergarten and First Grade students how to keep their hands free from violence and free from germs. The Alliance recently enhanced the Hands Free Program by introducing the Faux Paw Internet Safety Program to schools. We provided each participating school with a book and DVD for their library, website information with internet safety resources, and internet safety student bookmarks.
In 2007, the SCCMSA partnered with Screet Out's campaign to remove tobacco usage from youth rated Hollywood films. The Alliance utilizes letter writing, petition drives and endorsement campaigns to garner support for the four solutions:
In 2008, the SCCMSA partnered with the St.Clair Public Heath Commission and the Willard C. Scrivner Public Health Foundation to promote the Get Up & Go campaign. Get Up & Go challenges communities, groups and organizations in St. Clair county to participate in activities that improve health and fitness; provides suggested activities, ideas and support to get started and to keep going; and gets communities involved so that we can recognize our mutual efforts and motivate others to come along.
